The 2025 Livestock Markets Association of Canada Convention will be held in Brandon, Manitoba, May 8 to 11. The Canadian Livestock Auctioneering Championships is held in conjunction with the LMAC event. The host market this year is Heartland Livestock Services in Virden, Manitoba. The auctioneering championships will be held on May 9.
The market in Virden is home to two LMAC champions: Brennin Jack, the current manager; and Ward Cutler, the current head auctioneer. This event is expected to draw 40 of Canada’s top auctioneers and 3,000 cattle. In addition, the Man/Sask Livestock Auctioneering Championships will be held in conjunction with the National event.
Convention headquarters is the Clarion Inn and Suites in Brandon, Manitoba. Cut-off for rooms is April 15; please contact the hotel directly and use the LMA code when booking. The Hotel phone number is 204 728 5775. Transportation will be provided for all off-site events.
Registrations are open and must be purchased through Eventbrite. Auctioneers wishing to compete must register for the convention. Auctioneers’ entry fees are included in the registration fee. Please book a separate registration for each person attending the convention.
The Convention opens on Thursday, May 8, at 2:00 p.m. with a “welcome” hospitality room.
Auctioneer interviews and photos are Thursday afternoon. The official meet and greet supper starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by the auctioneers draw and Calcutta.
The Keynote speaker for the business meeting is Brenna Grant – Senior Market Analyst for CanFax. She will address the current state of the Canadian cattle market, provide current data on Canadian cattle markets, demand and trends as well as looking into the projected prices for this fall.
There will also be a panel discussion on “thinking outside the box.” This panel will consist of market operators that are doing something different and what influences their decisions.
Topics will include: Selling Commission Structure, Scanning Livestock, and Sale Type Selection. Panel members will share their experiences, both good and bad.
There will also be updates and reports from CCIA on the incoming traceability regulations and the reporting requirements to CCIA, along with reports from Canadian Cattlemen’s Association on what CCA is doing on the “trade war” front. There will be various vendors with displays and information to share.
