Danny Rosehill

2023 LMAC Hall of Fame Inductee

Danny Rosehill is a second-generation auction market owner/operator. His father, Charlie, was one of the original ownership group that founded the Olds Auction Market 1953.  From a very young age Danny showed a keen interest in the livestock marketing and learned the business from his father and partners, uncle Art and Harry Drever. Danny took an ownership role early in his career when his dad Charlie’s health declined. In 1976 Danny graduated from the worldwide college of auctioneering in Des Moines, Iowa. Danny continued his career as partner with Art and Harry throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 2002 Danny brought in new partners Greg Sanderson and Jim Crawford.

Danny Rosehill has been a very big promoter of the livestock auction business. He took time from his business schedule to serve on numerous industry committees and organization at both a provincial and national level. Danny served as the president for the Alberta Auction Markets Association from 1996 to 1998. During that time he also served as a valued member on the board of directors for the Livestock Markets Assoc. of Canada. While on the LMAC board of directors, Danny served on a number of national committees. Danny Rosehill was a very active member of the Alberta Auction Markets Association. He also served as the Director of the Alberta patron tribunal board from 2012 to 2020.

Danny Rosehill was an active supporter of the LMAC – Canadian Livestock Auctioneering Championships. He participated in a number of the LMAC competitions and had the distinction of drawing the number one position in the competition more than anyone else to date.

Danny was the reserve champion at LMAC hosted in Winnipeg in 1998.

Danny Rosehill was the winner of one of LMAC's most coveted awards while competing at LMAC. His peers selected him as the Most Congenial Auctioneer at the competition. He was a contender for this award every year he competed. His personality, public relations skills, his willingness to help other auctioneers, along with his commitment to the auction industry, made him a strong candidate every year.

He also competed and supported the International Auctioneering Championship many times. Danny was also selected to judge at the International competition in 2018. Under Danny’s leadership the Olds Auction Mart has hosted the preliminary first round of the International competition held in conjunction with Calgary Stampede eight times in the past 25 years and hosted both Canadian and International Championships in 2023. Auctioneers from all over the world have enjoyed the hospitality of the Olds Auction Mart and Danny Rosehill.

Danny encouraged his son, Tyler, to pursue the family business and mentored Tyler as both a business operator and auctioneer. The business ethics and knowledge Danny got from his father and partners, as well as his experience, has been passed on to Tyler and his business partner, Patrick Cassidy. The success of the Olds Auction Mart is evident, as the business will celebrate its 70th anniversary in business in 2023.

Danny Rosehill has committed his life to the livestock marketing industry. His reputation is stellar; his business ethics are of the highest level.  He is a great community supporter, a supporter of the cattle industry, and a leader in the cattle-marketing sector. Today, Danny enjoys retirement, but is still involved in operations and enjoys getting on the mic to sell cattle.
