Dean Edge, 2025 World Livestock Auctioneer Champion
Edge, from Rimby, Alberta, was declared the winner in Dunlop, Iowa. He beat out 29 other auctioneers who had qualified at regional championships all over the United States and at the World Event at the Calgary Stampede.
Edge is a 1999 graduate of the Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, Montana.
This was Edge’s ninth time qualifying for the World Championship and the sixth time making it to the final round. He won the LMAC title in 2006 and has also won the International Competition at the Calgary Stampede.
Dean credits his mentor, neighbour, and close friend Danny Skeels for getting him interested in auctioneering and helping him to hone his chant and auctioneering skills.
Edge joins Skeels as the only two Triple Crown Winners on record. Both have won the Canadian, International and World Championships. Skeels and Edge are two of only three Canadians who have won the World Championships.
The ever-humble Edge took the win graciously. “This championship means I can better serve my customers, and it gives me a chance to learn more about how to help them market their cattle,” he said.
Dean was also very quick to credit the support of his family – wife Jeanine and children Erin, Lexie, and Lane – in his success as an auctioneer. He also thanked VJV for their sponsorship and mentioned Blair Vold, who gave Edge his first opportunity to sell cattle and who supported him throughout his career.
Edge’s victory in Iowa was well received by LMA and the majority of the marketing industry. One high-ranking LMA official said, “Dean Edge will be a great representative for LMA and the auction industry. He is very likeable, has a great personality, is very professional and confident, but humble. Dean has all of the traits that we look for in a World Champion.”
As the LMA World Champion, Edge will travel all over North America, at the invitation of market operators, to be a guest auctioneer at their sale barns. Edge has already received a record number of invitations from markets across the USA to sell at their sales.
For Dean Edge it is a win/win situation. “I’ve always loved the travel and especially the chance to see so many livestock auction markets and learn how they do things. While they have a lot of differences, they’re all working hard for producers, providing true price discovery and a reliable, transparent marketing method.” While travelling, Edge will be driving a custom wrapped truck courtesy of LMA.
One of traits that gives Dean Edge an advantage is that he is used to being in high pressure situations in front of large crowds; he has nerves of steel. He is an accomplished competitive calf roper and has competed in both the Canadian and Calgary Stampede finals.
As a rancher himself, he understands how important sale day is for the producers who trust him to sell their cattle. They trust him to get the best price the market can provide.
To win the World Championships is no easy feat; for a Canadian to win is even more difficult. That makes Dean Edge’s accomplishment even more special!
